Course objectives

The student will understand the basic properties and principles of propagation of radio waves and knowledge of the roles and principles of the work of all parts involved in the process of wireless signal transmission. Furthermore, students will become familiar with the most important and current standards and wireless communication systems and emerging trends.

Course outcomes

  • Use the antenna parameters for the purpose of designing complete communication systems.
  • To justify the use of individual antennas for different purposes.
  • Analyze the application of frequency belts for different RF systems.
  • Describe the principle of the work of some RF systems.
  • Calculate the directional link parameters.
  • Describe the basic properties of modulation procedures.
  • Analyze and compare the characteristics of different radio communication systems.
 

Course content

Introduction to wireless communication components and systems. Basic principles, properties and operating principles of antenna and diffusion of EM waves. RF spectrum: control and use. Types of wireless communication. RF system components: RF signal generation, modulation techniques, amplification and adaptation of RF signals, transmission lines, filters, microwave components, antennas and antenna systems. Wireless telecommunication networks: GSM, GPRS, EDGE, 3G, UMTS, IEEE 802.11, IEEE 802.16. WPAN.
