Course objectives
- Provide knowledge related to sustainable tourism development
- To enlighten and point to the importance of planning tourism development in accordance with the principles of sustainability
- Master the methods of tourism development planning
- Provide guidelines for future planning of tourism development with the goal of achieving sustainability and competitiveness

Course content
Concept of sustainable development. Sustainable tourism development: theoretical basis. Principles of sustainable tourism development. Prerequisites for the implementation of the principle. Understanding the concept of tourist planning. A system for planning sustainable tourism development at the local community level. Planning of tourism development in accordance with the principles of sustainability: methodology, process, features. Participation of stakeholders in tourism planning. Sustainability indicators in tourism. Agenda 21. Legal regulation of sustainable tourism development. Protection of specific areas. Sustainable development strategy of the Republic of Croatia. Sustainable development of Croatian tourism. Marginal tourism opportunities. Accepted potential of a tourist destination (CC). Acceptable change limit (LAC). Environmental impact assessment (EIA).
