Course objectives

  • Getting acquainted with the core concepts of competitiveness, enterprise growth models and entrepreneurial support institutions
  • Detailed knowledge of possible ways of merging organizations
  • Detailed knowledge of how to organize and operate clusters
  • Knowledge of strategic thinking and cluster-based analysis
  • Knowledge of computing competitiveness in potential clusters and knowledge of comparative cluster evaluation
 

Course outcomes

  • Define basic concepts of competitiveness, growth model and entrepreneurial support institutions
  • Identify organizations of the social and private tourism sector that play a key role in tourism.
  • Explain the notion of interest-based mergers (creation of clusters, partnerships, etc.) for the purpose of promoting common interests in the tourism sector.
  • Describe the forms and ways of interest based mergers for the development of tourism in a tourism destination.
  • Critically evaluate the role of clusters in national economies and policy initiatives and support the development of clusters
  • Choose the option of the organizational model of association
  • On a "Case study" example design a cluster business plan from the tourism sector and to argue and critically evaluate selected options,
  • Critically evaluate successful and unsuccessful mergers from available tourism practices
  • Measure and analyze the cluster's competitiveness and evaluate clusters
 

Course content

Explanation of the concepts of competitiveness, growth model and entrepreneurial and tourism support institutions. Defining possible forms of cooperation between economic operators in the field of rural tourism. Defining the meaning of merging companies for the competitiveness of countries. Defining cluster meanings for a country competitiveness development. Defining enterprise growth models. Different theoretical explanations of clusters and competitiveness. A cluster of initiatives and policies to support cluster development. Analysis of cluster case studies and their impact on competitiveness: the EU, post-transition economy and Croatia. Cluster measurement and analysis.
