Course objectives
Provide overview of basic concepts in the field of culture, multiculturalism, interculturalism and intercultural communication and give an overview of the impact of cultural diversity, culture of a society and national culture on management functions, managerial processes and global business
Course outcomes
- Critically evaluate the impact of globalization processes and society's culture on management
- Assess the impact of particular dimensions of national culture on management
- Identify basic concepts in the field of culture, cultural diversity, multiculturalism, interculturalism and intercultural competence
- Confirm the elements, components, dimensions and levels of intercultural competence
- Identify the characteristics of an intercultural competent manager
- Valorize the importance of interculturalism in management
- Select effective forms of intercultural communication in business relationships
Course content
Globalization as a global process and a global image of the world in the 21st century, reflecting on the dimensions of globalization. Management approaches in the global business. The features of a modern manager and the challenges of management in global business. The concept of interculturalism: historical genesis, conceptual definition, theoretical approaches and intercultural education as part of the educational policies of European countries. Intercultural approach to management. Aspects of intercultural communication in business relationships. Intercultural competence and traits of interculturally competent managers. Intercultural conflicts and intercultural mediation. Intercultural education and training of managers for intercultural relations in the context of lifelong learning and the knowledge society.
