Course objectives

  • Present and explain the trends in supply and demand in the tourism market
  • Give an overview of the basic concepts related to the definition of innovation and creativity in tourism
  • Understand the importance and meaning of innovations to attract modern tourism consumers into a tourism destination
  • Provide guidelines for the future development of specific (sustainable) forms of tourism

  • Explain the underlying concepts and definitions of innovations and innovators
  • Present examples of innovations in the domestic and global tourism sector
  • Define the basic concepts of creative tourism
  • Assess the creative potential of creative tourism in Croatia
  • Critically evaluate development programs of creative tourism in a particular destination
  • Create a model for the development of a modern tourism product
 

Course content

Characteristics of the changes in the tourism market demand and supply. A new concept of tourism. Theoretical definition of innovation. Typology of innovation in tourism. Innovators in tourism. Significance of innovations in the tourism industry. The legality of innovation in the tourism market. Innovation in Croatian and World tourism. Theoretical starting point: creativity, creative thinking, creative techniques. Creative tourism and its emerging forms. Relationship between creative tourism and tourist destinations. Development perspective of creative tourism in Croatia and the world. Innovation Vs. creativity. Influence of new information and technology resources on tourism business. Online agencies. Economics of exchange and tourism.
