Course objectives

To familiarize students with the basic characteristics of the European Union economy, the way and the area of EU action, the laws of the EU single market and the possibilities of using EU funds.

Course outcomes

  • Describe the process and purpose of the EU's development, the expansion and the opportunities that the EU provides
  • Identify key EU institutions and their way of making decisions
  • Compare the economic and monetary union
  • Identify EU programs and funds available for Croatia and evaluate the possibilities of exploiting individual EU funds
 

Course content

EU data and indicators. Development of EU systems and institutions. EU members and candidates - differences in development. Demographic picture and natural resources of the EU. European market potentials and EU position in global competitiveness. EU: freedom of the market and market competition. State aid control and tax harmonization in the EU. The Europe 2020 strategy. Common EU policy. European funds and programs. EU - challenges of technological and industrial development. Agriculture issues in the EU. European transport corridors and development of transport infrastructure. Challenges of the development of the circular economy. Social inclusion and the fight against poverty. Youth issues - education and employment. EU energy policy and renewable energy sources. Entrepreneurship development - new initiatives in the EU. European monetary union and the EU budget. The role of EU financial institutions. Common foreign and security policy of the EU. EU business and application information for EU funds. EU business experience (guest-lecturer). Applying for EU funds and programs.
