Course objectives
- Acquire the knowledge and practical skills required for the design, development and promotion of cultural tourism of a particular tourist destination
Course outcomes
- Identify the interdependence of culture (cultural identity) and tourism in general
- Critically explain the term cultural tourism and analyze the aspects of cultural tourism in the given tourist destination
- Evaluate the role of tradition in forming tourist offer of cultural tourism based on the valuation of cultural resources of a particular tourist destination
- Identify and comment on the emerging forms of cultural tourism in the given tourist destination
- Critically assess the role of the state and international organizations in the development of cultural tourism
- Analyze and compare the current development of cultural tourism in Croatia with selected world tourist destinations
Course content
The term culture and cultural heritage. Defining cultural - civilization heritage. The interdependence of culture and tourism. Cultural heritage management in tourism. Cultural tourism: definition. Cultural tourists. Prerequisites for the development of cultural tourism. Aspects of cultural tourism: socio-cultural, economic, and spatial. Characteristics of supply and demand of cultural tourism. Cultural tourism in Croatia. Organization of the development of cultural tourism. Selective forms and forms of cultural tourism. The role of international organizations in cultural tourism. The role of the state in cultural tourism. Contemporary trends in cultural tourism. Creating strategies for the development of cultural tourism in a particular tourist destination.
