Course objectives

  • The main goal of the course is to familiarise students with the theory and practice of contemporary business ethics with an emphasis on understanding and accepting ethical principles of conducting business, as well as on real problems which arise from such endeavours.

Course outcomes

  • Properly define the concept of business ethics,
  • Define the concept of the social responsibility of an organisation,
  • Analyze the issue of contemporary business ethics in the country and the world.

Course content

The concept and definition of business ethics. Attempting to integrate different approaches to business ethics and recent movements in business ethics. Ethics in business organisations. Defining and explaining business ethical virtues. Developing business ethics of virtue with respect to the individual –individual ethics for the individual. Virtue ethics on the part-part and part-whole level. Principien Lehre- business ethical approach of the German speaking area. Business ethical positivism. Adam Smith’s business ethics- invisible hand as a factor for an ethical alignment of an economy (classical approach). Contemporary trends in the business principle ethics. Attempting to align contemporary trends. Written objective rules of ethical behaviour in business. Human rights, protection of human rights, professional codex. Business ethics codex with respect to subjectively interested stakeholders and business ethics codex with respect to objectively interested shareholders The ethics of unwritten and informal rules. The rules of polite behaviour in the workplace, polite behaviour and ethics in business communication, ethics and the protocol of business meetings.
