Sandra Matošina Borbaš, a university specialist in psychology and the manager of the Family Center’s branch office in Virovitica-Podravina, delivered a presentation to students and educators on the topic “Meaningful Learning: Challenge and Opportunity.” This event marked the celebration of this year’s Night of the Book, a long-standing tradition that has been at the forefront of addressing societal challenges for the past 13 years. During the Night of the Book 2024, our focus was on how we navigate through challenging times. We explored which literature offers us comfort and motivation for change, what insights literature and science provide in response to contemporary threats, and the advice psychologists have for us. We also delved into strategies for protecting ourselves from misinformation and fake news. Lastly, we discussed how our reading habits can lead to personal transformation and influence the outcomes we face. The lecture utilized an interactive approach and practical examples to discuss various types of memory, including sensory, short-term, and long-term memory. The most engaging segment involved demonstrations of mnemonic techniques, such as abbreviation, encoding, rhymes, and rhythm, which significantly enhance memory retention and learning efficiency.
