The board president of FINA, Dražen Čović, and the Dean of Virovitica College, Oliver Jukić, signed a Cooperation contract on Saturday, 16th March 2019 in the halls of Virovitica College, which will set the foundation for a future FINA’s IT development centre in Virovitica. In addition to the cooperation agreement, board president Dražen Čović also signed a contract where he has given scholarships to three Virovitica College’s students who will also have an opportunity to obtain employment in FINA.
Virovitica’s mayor Ivica Kirin also gave support for the founding of the IT development centre. In addition to mayor Kirin, the signing of contract was also attended by the deputy mayor Vlasta Honjek – Golinac, manager of VTA’s development agency Tihana Harmund, Ivica Prekratić, manager of FINA’s Bjelovar subsidiary within which is also Virovitica’s branch office, and Neven Garača, Vice dean of development.
The main purpose of the agreement between FINA and Virovitica College is to educate future workers for a future FINA’s IT development centre in Virovitica.
-FINA is, above else, a technology company which has, in its organization, a very strong IT development team and that section has 280 employees. We will cooperate with the College precisely because we want to show to the student who study here that there is place where they can work, and that their future workplace is waiting for them, and also that they can, through FINA, do their internship, student work, participate in all projects done by FINA for the state…FINA is one of the four companies assigned to digitize the country and precisely on that work we are building a foundation for our future and therefore are looking for more staff.- board director Dražen Čović highlighted during the signing of the agreement.
By the way, FINA’s information centres are being built in places where there are or operate schools that educate IT experts. Such centres already exist in Split and Zabok. In addition to the one in Virovitica, FINA intends in 2019 to also open information centres in Osijek and Čakovec.
-I’m hoping to open the IT development centre in Virovitica soon, and we will open it in FINA’s building once we finish all the preparations. Currently, the search for new employees is already in progress, and we signed scholarship contracts with our students. We hope that we will be able to in a period of one to two years form teams and do the work that is already being done in our other information centres- Dražen Čović added.
The satisfaction of signing the agreement, as well as scholarship contracts, was also expressed by Virovitica College’s Dean Oliver Jukić.
-The search for new employees is already in progress, and there are ongoing works done on the space above the FINA building in Virovitica and I hope that in the next few years a significant number of students will be employed there. In the end I expect that there will be approximately 20 or so engineers working with very sophisticated technology.-Oliver Jukić emphasised, also reflecting on the College growing into a polytechnic.
-Formally, we have the conditions to become a polytechnic. We have study programs for the fields of Computer sciences, Electrical engineering and Economy. The process of re-accreditation of the College is waiting for us in May, and we will, after we hopefully pass the re-accreditation, start the process of changing our statute and do all the necessary formalities so that the college can become a polytechnic.-Oliver Jukić said.
Third year Computer sciences student, study program Software engineering, Barbara Strapač, also the new FINA scholarship holder, emphasized that this an excellent opportunity to develop ones career.
