On Thursday, June 6, 2024, cybersecurity consultant Marko Gulan delivered a guest lecture on “Cyber Attacks: Lessons for Tomorrow’s Security” for students and faculty at the Virovitica University of Applied Sciences.
The lecture addressed various aspects of cybersecurity, highlighting some intriguing facts, such as the reality that only 2% of IT budgets are allocated to security and that a security-threatening attack occurs every 14 seconds. Gulan emphasized the need to define what constitutes a cyber attack, whether a unified strategy exists, and the balance between security and privacy. Additionally, he discussed the concept of social engineering.
Marko Gulan began his career at Microsoft Croatia and later worked as a licensing consultant for Microsoft products at Croatia’s largest distribution companies. With the rise of cloud computing, he pivoted his career and joined esteemed ICT companies like Span, HT, and A1. Concurrently, he became involved with the EuroCloud organization as Vice President for the development of the EuroCloud StarAudit certification scheme. Currently, he works as a cybersecurity consultant specializing in OT and ICS in Southeast Europe. He also serves as the President of the Industrial and OT Security Committee of the Croatian Security Managers Association and the President of the Interinstitutional Cooperation Committee of the Croatian Institute for Cybersecurity.
