Course objectives

Develop competencies such as the ability to understand and use the modern English language in speech and writing in business communication.

Course outcomes

Name of the learning outcomes set: General English language and grammatical structures in English 2 Level: 6
  • Properly use the vocabulary related to free trade and business in the international market
  • Formulate conditional sentences regarding the present or the future, taking into account the degree of probability that something will happen
  • Properly use narrative verb tenses
  • Argue which adjectives and phrases to use when describing one's personality and business style
  • Assess which situations are more acceptable to use active or passive structures, justify the reasons for using passive structures

  • Choose appropriate phrases and registry for writing letters and emails in business communication
  • Properly formulate and use terms related to negotiation
  • Design and properly formulate a resume and accompanying letter of invitation to the competition
  • In a argumentative way discuss a particular topic (e.g. whether it is morally acceptable to lie in a resume)

  • Analyze ways of negotiating (accepting / rejecting proposals, clarifying questions, imposing conditions ...) in a foreign language
  • Based on the read article, critically evaluate the attitude of a particular person and their way of running a business
  • Based on a listened conversation, judge whether the conversation claims are true or false
  • Valorize the existence of different communication styles in different cultures around the world
  • Self-evaluate your own competitiveness and your attitude towards the competition

International markets (vocabulary, discussion); Free trade; Conditionals and negotiating (listening, speaking); Ethics in business (reading, vocabulary) Writing a CV and cover letter; Narrative tenses Leadership (adjectives for describing character, leadership qualities, listening); The Father of L’Oreal (reading); Writing: a formal e-mail message; Competition (personality quiz, vocabulary, idioms related to sport); Passives – Form, Use; Transforming active sentences into the passive; Communication styles in different cultures (listening, discussion)
