Course objectives
To enable students to use English in speaking and writing when describing jobs in the tourist sector, describing destinations and interpreting data from the charts.

Course content
PE1 TOPICS: What is tourism ?; World destinations; Tour operators; Tourist motivations. VOCABULARY: adjectives for job skills, industry sectors, tourism attractions, tour operation, reasons for travel. GRAMATICS: modal verbs, Present Simple, Present Simple, Present Simple Passive, Present Simple questions, prepositions of time, describing trends.
PE2 TOPICS: Travel agencies; Transport in tourism; Accommodation; Marketing and Promotion. VOCABULARY: sales terms, transportation terms, types of accommodation, marketing and advertising terminology. GRAMATICS: open and closed questions, comparison of adjectives, verb patterns.
PE3 TOPICS: The airline industry; Holidays with a difference; Reservation and sales; Airport departures. VOCABULARY: air travel terminology, types of holiday, reservations, airport services. GRAMATICS: polite questions, conditional sentences, giving orders.
PE4 TOPICS: Arrivals; A place to stay; Tourist information services; Holiday rep. VOCABULARY: car hire, new arrivals, information types, holiday health. GRAMATICS: greeting and introducing, describing locations, giving directions, giving advice, talking about obligation.
PE5 TOPICS: Eating out; Rural tourism; Attractions and events; On tour. VOCABULARY: food, rural tourism terminology, weather, types of visitors, standards of performance. GRAMATICS: relative clauses, predictions, passive, language of calming and dealing with crisis.
PE6 TOPICS: Hotel entertainment; Specialized tourism; Business travel; Checking out. VOCABULARY: the perfect worker, describing disability, business travel terminology, front office duties. GRAMATICS: indefinite pronouns, responding to requests, describing dimensions, responding to problems.
