Course objectives

  • introduce students to the concepts of culture, cultural heritage, cultural-civilization and traditional heritage and basic features of cultural tourism
  • acquire the knowledge and practical skills needed in designing cultural tourism in the rural area
 

Course outcomes

  • Distinguish the concepts of culture, cultural heritage, and cultural-civilization heritage.
  • Identify the interdependence of culture (cultural identity), rural tourism and tourism in general.
  • Assess the role of tradition in forming a tourist offer based on the valuation of cultural resources of a particular rural area.

Course content

Culture and cultural heritage. Tourism functions of culture and cultural functions of tourism. Economic approach to cultural assets - cultural tourism. Tourism valorization and revitalization of culture and cultural heritage. The process of managing cultural goods. Interpretation of cultural heritage. Exemplary forms of cultural tourism in a rural area. Cultural tourism in rural areas of the Republic of Croatia. The role of states and international organizations in the development of cultural tourism.
