Course objectives

  •  show the importance of entrepreneurship for the development of the national economy and the sustainability of tourism,
  • to identify opportunities and constraints on entrepreneurship development in tourism, with a focus on rural tourism
  • to awaken and point to the necessity of creating new products and services in the function of strengthening rural tourism,
  • outline the methods by which to show the basic elements necessary for starting an entrepreneurial venture,
  • emphasize the role and significance of making a business plan before starting an entrepreneurial venture

  • Identify the difference between the concepts of entrepreneurship and company.
  • Identify the difference between the concepts of management and ownership.
  • Build a mission and vision of a company.

  • Determine the factors which positively and negatively affect the development of innovations in a business.
  • Explain the ways of managing innovations and their effects on a business.
  • Suggest tools for identifying opportunities, creating and generating ideas.
  • Identify needs, desires, and priorities, assess alternatives, and make decisions on a specific issue.
  • Critically evaluate the role of leaders in relation to their ability to lead the innovation process.

  • Categorize types of activities and projects that are common in tourism, accommodation industry and rural tourism and assess their impact on business processes.
  • Identify the key phases of a project life cycle and predict the factors that most often decide on the success or failure of the project.
  • Recommend how sustainable practices can be involved in project management.
  • Explain the procedure of preparing, applying and realising a rural tourism project.
  • Formulate a detailed project management plan that includes the organization's strategic goals and human resource requirements.
 

Course content

Introduction to the entrepreneurship theory. Relationships between management and entrepreneurship in tourism. Managing the entrepreneurship process in tourism (investments, revenues, costs, business success). Areas of entrepreneurship in tourism. Entrepreneurship and innovation in tourism. Entrepreneurship of a tourism destination. Entrepreneurship of tourism and hospitality entities in rural tourism. Entrepreneurship programs in tourism. Methodology of entrepreneurial projects in tourism.
