Course objectives
- Distinguish the basic concepts of special forms of rural tourism.
- Identify future trends based on current relevant indicators.
- Identify and explain the main changes in change of motivation and affinity for travel caused by demographic and economic factors.
- Explain the main threats that may affect the development of special forms of rural tourism.
- Suggest a business and operational plan for a specific tourist activity within special forms of rural tourism.

- Present, differentiate and interpret the underlying concepts regarding the emergence of special forms of rural tourism and activities in rural areas such as social trends, culture, camping, ecology, health, natural wildlife, adventure, outdoor recreation, art, etc.
- Evaluate the nature and development of special forms of tourism in the rural area and correspondence with customers, products and services.
- Explore major appeals, client motives, and competitiveness factors within specific forms of rural tourism and activities and manage customer needs.

Global trends in tourism. New orientations in tourism industry: mass vs. selective (special, specific) tourism. Contemporary tourist profile. Terminology, classification and characteristics of special forms of tourism. Terminology of rural tourism. Threats / limiting factors in the development of rural tourism. Psychological profile of a rural tourist. Classification of rural tourism on special forms. Agritourist. Ecotourism. Health tourism. Sports and recreational tourism. Adventure tourism. Hunting and fishing tourism. Religious tourism. Cultural tourism. Gastronomic and wine tourism. Camping tourism. Other special forms of rural tourism. Possibilities and resources- the basis for a rural area for the development of special forms of rural tourism in Croatia.
