Course objectives
- Improving the use of basic Anglo-American terminology of individual management and entrepreneurial areas
- Development of student writing (report, record) and oral (presentation) communication
- Developing awareness of business multiculturalism.
Course outcomes
- Understanding and interpreting authentic selected texts in business English, while developing their own business skills
- use of grammatical structures in the function of understanding Anglo-American professional texts
- distinguishing and applying different English language registers (formal / informal expression)
- Effective use of Anglo-American dictionaries and other manuals
- Understanding and using a professional Anglo-American vocabulary in a limited number of areas;
- acquisition of written business communication skills in English (successful production of business report elements and meeting minutes)
- acquiring the skills of oral business communication in English (successful presentation in a business environment)
Course content
The first semester will be accessible with respect to the basic student's pre-knowledge of economics: business, business types, business organizations, employment, advertising, business ethics, and ecology. Students will read and interpret non-speculative texts in business and professional English, and aim to learn a vocabulary related to these topics. Basic Anglo-American terminology in the fields of marketing, finance, banking and stock exchange, insurance and international trade will be studied.
