Course objectives
- Study the relationship between global threats and sustainable development.
- Understand the policy of sustainable development as a prerequisite for a more competitive and long-term business.
- Analyze the pressures of economic activity on community resources.
- Recognize the necessity of developing a social and ecological consciousness of the private sector towards the community.
- Identify the importance and the mutual benefit of a socially responsible business.
- Identify the most appropriate CSR solutions implemented in practice.
Course outcomes
- Link basic elements of sustainable development and their impact on business
- Assess the role and importance of sustainable development in making business decisions
- Identify global threats of excessive economic pressures on resources
- Identify the positive effects of CSR
- Identify the importance and the mutual benefit of the private sector and the community from the aspect of CSR
- To propose solutions for sustainable development and CSR on the example of a given economic entity
- Validate legal regulation from the aspect of sustainable development and CSR for undisturbed long-term development
Course content
The concept and history of the emergence of sustainable development. Basic principles and types of sustainable development. Sustainable development from the socio-economic aspect. Indicators and sustainable development policies. Ecological policy in the function of sustainable development. Environmental pressure on the environment: problems and trends. Theory, approaches and initiators of socially responsible business development (CSR). Why CSR is needed? Uses and positive effects of CSR. Small and medium sized enterprises. The role of the legislative and institutional support to CSR. Areas of application of CSR. Application of CSR in Croatia.
