Course objectives
- Introduce students to business finances to successfully understand and manage finances in an enterprise and to understand the ways in which financial practices in the Republic of Croatia and in foreign money and capital markets function
- Acquiring knowledge and skills to assess the justification of certain financial decisions necessary for assessing the value of an enterprise
Course outcomes
- Assess the role of financial management in a enterprise
- Valorize the structure and cost of capital
- Determine the time preference of money with respect to the risks the enterprise may be exposed to
- Valuate investments in bonds and shares
- Calculate financial indicators for financial analysis and planning purposes
- Valorize the process of making decisions on long-term investments in real estate assets of the enterprise
- Identify ways of financial restructuring of enterprises, mergers and acquisitions
- To compare the ways and sources of financing of enterprises in foreign money and capital markets
- Assess the possibilities of financing small and medium-sized enterprises on domestic and foreign money and capital markets
Course content
The role of finances in business operations. Decision on allocation of funds - net present value. Cost of capital. Structure of capital and financing. Concept of time value of money. Risk, return, CAMP model of valuation-risk management. Valuation of bonds and shares. Dividend payment policy. Financial analysis and planning. Capital budgeting. Financial derivatives. Financial restructuring of the enterprise. Mergers and acquisitions. Valuing business results. Funding on foreign money and capital markets. Specifications for financing small and medium-sized enterprises.
