Course objectives
- Getting acquainted with the basic concepts of managing small and medium-sized enterprises
- Detailed knowledge of the problem of establishing a small business, making a business plan, selecting products / services, analyzing the market
- Knowing possible ways of obtaining financial resources for establishing and running small businesses
- Knowledge of specific management characteristics in small and medium-sized enterprises
Course outcomes
- Define the basic concepts of SME management
- Critically evaluate the role of small and medium-sized enterprises in national economies
- On a case study example, design and write a business strategy for a small or mid-sized company and argue the options chosen and critically evaluate them.
- Critically evaluate successful and unsuccessful enterprises
- Critically evaluate the company's analyzed strategies
- On a "case study", formulate and write a proposal for a financial plan for establishing and launching a small or medium-sized business
- Measure the company's competitiveness and evaluate enterprises
Course content
Introduction: defining the concepts and characteristics of small and medium enterprises (hereinafter SME). Opportunities and challenges of SMEs. The role of SME in the development of the economy. Establishing SMEs: Starting a new business. Entrepreneurial ideas. Entrepreneurial teams. Formation of a non-existent company. Taking over an existing SME by individuals or groups who were not entrepreneurs by then. Taking over of family SMEs by heirs. Establishing a new company from an already existing company. Spin-off establishment. Management- buy-out establishment. Franchising. Business Strategy: The concept and role of SME business strategy. The ways and procedures for preparing a SME business strategy. Development of a small business marketing strategy. Defining a financial plan for the establishment and management of SMEs. Risk management and SME Insurance.
