Course objectives
Students will be able to understand the different implementations of network infrastructures of smaller to mid-sized organizations and participate in the construction of such computer network systems, including the choice of cabling and networking devices and their installation and configuration. Students will also familiarize themselves with the major protocols and software tools used in computer network management. Students will be able to choose and use the appropriate software management tools for network management.
Course outcomes
- Terminate LAN cables.
- Apply LAN testing devices.
- Suggest appropriate network topologies for the default application conditions.
- Describe the properties of various portable media in communication networks.
- Explain the principles of operation and application of LAN and WAN communication devices and protocols.
- Configure the basic network router, network switch, network firewall and WLAN AP (CISCO or Mikrotik) basic settings.
- Identify basic elements of computer network management.
- Enter and describe the control models (FCAPS).
- Describe control protocols and systems: SNMP, CLI, syslog, Netconf, Netflow
Course content
LAN and WAN network topologies. Portable media. LAN wiring. LAN and WAN network devices and communication protocols. Overlapping and routing protocols. The basics of computer network management. Network management systems. Control Models (FCAPS). Control protocols and systems.
