Course objectives

  • understand and explain in the English language the basic concepts related to the topics listed in the course contents;
  • Understand and interpret a variety of authentic Anglo-American texts with topics from these areas;
  • To convey the meaning of some Croatian structures and terminology from the specified economic domains to the business English language in a suitable and grammatically correct form.
 

Course outcomes

  • Creating awareness of the meaning of business English in modern destination management;
  • Review and adoption of basic tourism engineering terminology in the English language;
  • Successful interpretation and use of Anglo-American Conversational Models in accordance with the above-mentioned tourism themes;
  • Practicing and appropriately and grammatically accurately expressing the basic language functions (offering / claiming, comparing, ascertaining, arguing, causing and consequent, proposing, conditioning, etc.) in the business English language;
  • Critical judgment and linking of general knowledge about destination management in Croatia with selected content in the business English language;
  • Preparedness for individual, basic tourism communication in English, with respect to Croatian national specialties within modern destination management.
 

Course content

The framework topics will include globalization, international trade, entrepreneurship, innovation, destination management, accounting, tourism, hospitality, exchange and banking. Students will read and interpret authentic English language specialized textbooks and aim to learn the vocabulary related to the framework themes. In particular, the following contents will be covered: the Croatian monumental / gastronomic tradition, business registration / business interview, CV (ECV format), leaving / receiving messages, electronic communication (reservation / cancellation), recommendations.
