Course objectives
Develop competencies such as the ability to understand and use the modern English language in speech and writing in business communication.
Course outcomes
- Choose and use idioms and key vocabulary related to business communication correctly
- Use present and past tenses correctly (for example, when describing a company's historical development)
- Formulate and actively use marketing-related compounds
- Apply and use the learnt terms in the discussion on successful communication
- Write an official e-mail relating to business using proper formulation and vocabulary
- Discuss various business risk forms using the appropriate vocabulary
- Give appropriate business advices for conducting business in a foreign country
- Based on an interview on the subject in the field of marketing, draw conclusions / compare the way of doing business in Croatia and some other country
- Analyze text related to business diversity in different cultures
- Set hypotheses before reading the text and confirm them by analyzing the read text
Course content
Communication. Scheduling a business meeting. Making, accepting, and rejecting business calls. Making calls.
Answering phone calls. Receiving and leaving phone messages. Expecting guests and business partners. Presentation and introduction. Establishing and writing agenda. Writing a log. Writing a report. Different approaches to negotiation. Questions and explanations. Achieving negotiating goals. Action plan. Keeping notes during a business meeting and basic terminology. Team work. Crisis management. Taking over business entities.
