Guest lecture by Željka Hertelendi, MSc in Business and Tourism from TU Dublin, and Business Sustainability diploma from Cambridge University for Sustainable Leadership

On Wednesday, 31 March 2021, Željka Hertelendi, Business owner at Platform 61 – sustainable restaurant in Dublin, and Business owner at Edamame Eco, held an online guest lecture on ‘Sustainability and Food Waste’ at Virovitica University of Applied Sciences. The guest lecture was held in English and was exceptionally well-received by students of undergraduate professional study of Management in Rural Tourism and specialist graduate professional study of Destination Management, as well as the teaching staff from the Department of Tourism.

In her highly interesting lecture, Ms Hertelendi presented innovative ways of advertising through sustainable promotional products, highlighted some of the burning issues and challenges that threaten the sustainability of our global society and presented some green solutions that can be used to positively impact our environment. By sharing real life stories of three zero waste heroes (an urban harvester, a zero waste chef, and a sustainable business owner), she gave positive examples of sustainable business practices, trying to inspire students to be more sensitive to the sustainability and food waste issues. At the end of the lecture, useful links related to food waste and sustainability were shared, alongside an invitation to everyone present to try to contribute to the sustainability of our planet through their future work in the sphere of tourism.
